Spray Can 5.1.5

update-3 blogEarlier this year we received a lot of questions as to when the next update will be released, particularly because of the bugs in the app. The time has come! Today we release Spray Can 5.1.5 for iOS.

Let’s see what’s new! We improved the server performance, which causes a better and quicker connection between the app and the server. Besides, there’ll be a fix for the “Non approved image” problem and the disappearance of backgrounds and brushes.

What’s even more interesting, is the new gallery section, called “Featured”. It consists of staff picked tags, which we’ve also featured on Spray Can’s website. That’s how we want to generate more clicks and views for some really good, but unfortunately sometimes quite unknown artists. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t participate in this decision. Tell us in an e-mail which artist you would like to have featured and we’ll definitely consider your suggestion.

This news means furthermore, that if you’re logged out or you don’t have an account yet, you’ll see the featured tags in your feed instead of the usual view, which contains new pictures of the artists you follow.

Are you already wound up to a high pitch? Just update and try it out!

Pass it on! Animal world

Monkeys are mammals of the order Primates. They arose from ancestors that lived in the trees of tropical forests. Many monkey species are still tree-dwelling, although some species live primarily on the ground. Monkeys are generally considered to be intelligent.
Besides, monkeys are notoriously curious. A recent research at the University of Rochester and Columbia University has quantified just how eager they are to gain new information, even if this means, they wouldn’t get immediate benefits. The study shows that rhesus macaques have such robust curiosity that they are willing to give up a surprisingly large portion of a potential prize in order to quickly find out if they selected the winning option at a gambling game. Therefore, the findings offer insights into how a certain part of the brain shared by monkeys and humans plays a role in decision making, and perhaps even in some disorders and addictions in humans.

Disney’s 24th full-length animated movie (83 minutes), The Fox And The Hound, is all about friendship of two species, which are supposed to be enemies. However, this movie doesn’t only address friendship, but also such a mature theme, like loss.
A lonely widow adopts an orphaned fox cub named Tod, who soon befriends Copper, a hound puppy who lives next door with Amos, a mean hunter. They share a lot of fun, adventures and also disappointment and their friendship has to be put to the test. It’s Disney at its best: a simple and touching movie, that doesn’t need anything else to be an enjoyable experience for everyone.
The Walt Disney Company has produced hundreds of memorable characters. Some of them might be perfect for your pet. So if you still  puzzle your head over your dog’s or cat’s name, here’s a list of some Disney puppy names, which could help you to decide: http://bit.ly/1GaAO0v.

Lion Head by *Soul_2013

“Lion Head” by *Soul (2013)

Lions are known as regal beasts, so it’s not actually surprising that their symbolic meaning deals with strength, nobility, determination, intensity, courage, conquest, pride, protection and authority.
Its astrological sign is Leo, and has the sun for its planet. The basis of the association between the lion and the sun is the animal’s strength, its golden-brown color, and the ray-like mane of the male.
Lions live in the plains and grassy hills, never in the mountains and surely not in the high snow mountains. They are geographically distributed in mostly sub-Saharan east and southern Africa, but can also be found in many zoos internationally as well as in India and some parts of Asia.
These cats once ranged across the African continent and into Syria, Israel, Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, and even northwest India. 2,000 years ago more than a million lions roamed the Earth. In the past few decades, however, the population of these vulnerable animals has dramatically decreased. Now they may total as few as 20,000 animals.

As a matter of course we tend to reflect back on those things in our lives that influenced and shaped us in our childhood and adolescence, like movies, music, television and so on. Over the years  most of us were exposed to a sensory overload of images – a lot of which kept us entertained , especially when we were bored, for hours on end.
One of such entertaining things are popular cartoon series featuring Scooby Doo, one of the most awesome cartoon dogs. Scooby is a Great Dane with cropped ears, who’s afraid of everything. However, his expressions and laugh could make anyone smile and made him a unique cartoon dog. And just about everyone loves a good dog cartoon movie.
In real life Great Danes combine great size and power with elegance. It is square-proportioned and well-balanced. Nevertheless, they manage to be reserved and gentle and can well adapt to living among people, small children and other small animals.

Pass it on! Moving Water

Today we’re starting a new series of posts on here titled “Pass it on!” Here you can find several pictures on the same subject along with some further useful information on what’s depicted. The pictures have been selected quite randomly and represent the whole period of Spray Can’s existence.

So our today’s topic is “Moving water”. Let’s see, which pictures we’ve chosen:

“Orca” by Ele Persen [I] (2014)

Orca whales, also known as killer whales, are highly social and intelligent animals, probably the most socially bonded of all mammals on our planet. These toothed whales are known to live in highly organized pods, which serve as lasting social bonds. They have their own culture with specific behaviors. Orcas are most frequently found off Antarctica, Iceland, Norway and Pacific North America. These mammals have been around about 11 million years. Compared to them, we all are just babies.  Besides, an orca’s brain is nearly four times the size of a human brain. Of course, humans and orcas live under very different conditions, so the manifestation of intelligence in the two species can be expected to be quite different.

Painting water is quite complicated. Water is affected by its surroundings, like, for instance, reflections, depth or clarity. A careful observation of what you see, will help you to understand the difference of each type of water (river, lake, sea, ocean) and to recreate it much easier. One common difficulty is based on a desire to paint very bright highlights such as reflections of the sunset on the water. You can’t use pure white paint therefore and expect the painting to look realistic. Try mixing  a bit of yellow into the white for these intense highlights. The key to a successful water painting lies in observation, practice and remembering to paint what you see and not what you know.

The English term “jellyfish” has been in use since 1796. However it is considered to be a misnomer, since jellyfish are actually not fish at all. Jellyfish are really impressive creatures, for all their simplicity. For its mass, the jellyfish spends less energy to travel a given distance than any other animal in the world. These species are found in every ocean, from the surface to the deep sea.  If you’ve been stung by a jellyfish, you shouldn’t rub or scratch the affected area. Furthermore you shouldn’t wash the sting with fresh water, only sea water should be used. There are several kinds of jellyfish you’d better not come across in your life. The multi-tentacled box jellyfish, Chironex fleckeri, is possibly the most venomous animal in the world. Its powerful venom is able to instantly stun or kill its prey, like fish and shrimp.

The world’s major civilizations developed along such sources of water, like for example rivers. They served as the source of life in very different ways. Venice is the most popular city built on water. Though Istanbul isn’t directly built on water, it represents one of the most important water-based communities in the world’s history. It is quite unique, because Istanbul is the only city that straddles two continents. The city straddles the Bosphorus, which is the link between the Black Sea to the north and the Sea of Marmara and Mediterranean to the south. The Bosphorous is not only a place of surpassing beauty, but also Istanbul’s heavily trafficked main street and the world’s busiest commercial waterway as well. Some scientists believe now that the Bosphorus did not slowly swell to its present size as a river might, but was flooded in a single day 75 centuries ago.
